Roof Cleaning

January 25, 2023 by ENVIO

Roof cleaning is an important task that helps maintain your roof’s appearance and longevity. One method for cleaning a roof is using a chlorine bleach solution. This method is often used to remove algae, moss, and other types of organic growth that can accumulate on the roof over time.

Here is a general guide on how to clean a roof using chlorine bleach:

  1. Safety first: Always wear proper safety gear, including gloves, eye protection, and slip-resistant shoes, when working on a roof.
  2. Prepare the solution: Mix a solution of 1 part chlorine bleach and 3 parts water in a sprayer or pump up the garden sprayer.
  3. Apply the solution: Begin by spraying the solution on a small section of the roof, starting from the top and working your way down. Be sure to avoid spraying near any plants or landscaping. Allow the solution to sit on the roof for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse the roof: Use a low-pressure garden hose to rinse the roof thoroughly, starting from the top and working your way down.
  5. Repeat the process: Repeat the process on the rest of the roof, working in small sections.
  6. Keep an eye: Monitor the roof for any re-growth of algae, moss or lichen, and repeat the process if necessary.

It’s important to note that chlorine bleach can be harmful to plants and landscaping, so it’s important to avoid spraying any nearby vegetation or to protect them with plastic sheeting. Chlorine bleach is also corrosive and can harm some types of roofing materials. It’s recommended to consult the manufacturer’s recommendations or a professional’s opinion before using any cleaning solution on your roof.

It’s also important to remember that cleaning a roof can be dangerous and hiring a professional is recommended if you are not comfortable working on a roof.
